Is your business ready for spring?  Not being ready for business can be almost as bad as not being open for it.  No matter what the reason, an inability to serve your customers’ needs opens the door for competitors to step in and win the business.  It also destroys the trust that you have spent countless amounts of time, energy and resources to earn from your customers.  Many of Cottage Grove’s businesses are about to enter their busiest time of year so now is the time to take advantage of the calm before the storm.  The following is a list of ten things that any business owner can do to convert down time into prep time.

On January 17th we celebrated the installation of our 2015 Board of Directors and gave recognition to a number of people and businesses that work tirelessly to make Cottage Grove a better community.  Over 200 attendees were present to help congratulate all of the award nominees and congratulate the winners.   Keith Kessler did a fantastic job as the Master of Ceremonies as he walked us all through an evening filled with gratitude and inspiration.  A lot of thanks need to go out to all of the people that it took to pull this event together.  Chamber staff members, the 2014 Board of Directors, members of the Promotions and Events Committee, the many sponsors, and supporting Chamber members all played an important role in making this banquet a success.

Did you make any New Year’s resolutions for 2015? If so, you’re taking part in a tradition that has been going on for over 4,000 years when ancient Babylonians reportedly made promises to the gods that they would return borrowed objects and pay off debts which they believed would earn them good favor in the coming year. There are a lot of common types of resolutions ranging from weight loss to getting out of debt or making amends with old adversaries. Sadly though, another all-too-common theme to making resolutions is the fact that they often only last for a short time before being abandoned or forgotten about. If you want to make a resolution that lasts, there are several simple things that you can do to prevent yourself from carrying out the much sadder tradition of abandoning the idea before Valentine’s Day. Here are a few simple, unoriginal, yet highly effective tips on how to make your New Year’s resolution a reality for 2015.
